Biography

Three decades of multi-textural expression

A native of Budapest, Hungary, Hilda relocated to Italy where she was inspired and encouraged by a famous artist in the early 1990s and began painting. However, after discovering and studying ceramic decoration near Faenza – specifically the technique of majolica on “biscotto” – a host of intricate art was produced over the next five years.

After meeting her British husband in Italy, Hilda moved to southern England and for the next decade while painting on canvas, influenced by several trips to Holland, she continued producing hand-painted ceramics, including many personalised orders, collaborating with a well-known village pottery in the South Downs.

After settling back in Hungary in the mid-2010s, Hilda swapped kiln for canvas and developed a distinctive, bold and colourful style of painting which became her prime focus, experimenting with various techniques and styles, as well as diverse subject matter, with frequent trips to Italy providing colourful inspiration.

Her current mode has adapted to a colourful and expressive style, whereby the emotions of the moment are laid boldly in multiple layers, enabling the fleeting joy of creative imagination to be captured, held and conveyed for the entertainment and perusal of others.

Hilda’s art has been sold in UK, Europe, Australia, India, China and the USA.

What really inspires me is the sea and the outburst of colours in nature and architecture, and my art often reflects this, whether on purpose or not.”
